MISSISSIPPI, TENNESSEE, TEXAS — January 2026 — P.E.A.R.L.S. Mentoring for Girls, Inc. (PM4G) proudly hosted its annual PM4G Day On, Not Off, an organization-wide Day of Service honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through action, leadership, and community engagement.
Instead of observing MLK Day as a day off, PM4G chapters across Holmes, Leflore, Hinds/Madison, Leake, Memphis, and Fort Worth participated in hands-on service projects designed to meet real community needs and reinforce the organization’s commitment to servant leadership.
Throughout the day, PM4G girls, mentors, advisors, parents, and community partners served in a variety of impactful ways, including:
Feeding individuals experiencing homelessness
Participating in MLK community walks
Stocking food pantries
Packing and delivering care packages to nursing home residents
Sorting hygiene products and assembling snack bags for families impacted by poverty and health disparities
Deep cleaning, organizing, and refreshing shelters and community spaces
Painting murals and revitalizing recreational areas to create welcoming environments for families and residents
One notable project included volunteers deep cleaning and refreshing The Yellow House, a local shelter providing temporary housing for pregnant mothers and their children. Volunteers replaced bedding, updated bathroom décor, and worked to ensure the space felt clean, comfortable, and welcoming for every family who calls the house home.
“PM4G Day On, Not Off is more than a service project—it’s a lived lesson in leadership,” said Aisha Saffold, Founder and Executive Director of P.E.A.R.L.S. Mentoring for Girls, Inc. “Our goal is to teach our girls that leadership is not just about titles, but about showing up, serving others, and being present in their communities.”
The day also highlighted the strength of the PM4G village, with parents and mentors traveling long distances to ensure their daughters could participate. Their dedication underscored the collective commitment to raising compassionate, community-minded leaders.
PM4G Day On, Not Off reflects the organization’s mission to empower girls through purpose, service, and leadership while honoring Dr. King’s belief that “everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.”
As PM4G looks ahead to the remainder of 2026, the organization remains focused on sustainability, intentional programming, and continued community impact across all chapters.
