P.E.A.R.L.S. Mentor, April Love, is awarded at National Youth Activist Awards in Nashville, TN.

P.E.A.R.L.S. Mentor, April Love, was awarded the Health Impact Award at the 2017 National Youth Activist Awards held in Nashville, TN on last weekend. The National Youth Activist Awards is inspired by students and youth activist who strive to go beyond the call of duty to make sure their communities are a better place to live, while focusing on a better tomorrow for today’s youth. She was awarded for being young and making a heavy impact in the area of health. Specifically, her work with mental health and mental illness awareness in the black community.

April Love graduated Cum Laude in May of 2015 from Tougaloo College with her Bachelor of
Arts Degree in English. She is now a full time English teacher, and a graduate student at the
University of Mississippi. April is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated and
the 2015 Class of the Mississippi Teacher Corps. April regularly works with her platform, ReAct,
which includes areas for self esteem, physical fitness, homelessness awareness, and simple
knowledge of mental illnesses. Along with her platform, April often ventures outside of her
platform researching and working with issues that effect children such as the school to prison
pipeline, achievement gaps in education, and other institutional dilemmas. Following her Masters
Degree, April plans to go into school administration, and obtain her Ph.D. in Educational Policy
with hopes that she can alleviate these problems.
